An opportunity has arisen for an Engineer – Electrical Test & Instrumentation to join the Battery Systems department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.

About the role

To work in the Electrical Test Team to support testing both in the UK and overseas.

 What you will do 

  • Execute system test and validation activities, both on products and on rigs
  • Prepare test rigs to enable hardware and system testing to be carried out.
  • Support testing carried out by external test houses.
  • Assist with the build and fault-finding of projects
  • Preparation and presentation of reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Support technical and project reviews with the customer, representing Fortescue Zero, as required.
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers, suppliers and all other departments
  • Understand and work to Fortescue Zero, Customer, Industry and Legislative standards. 
  • To assemble and disassemble as required systems and other components, to allow debug and fault resolution to take place.
  • Ensure that all assemblies are built to a build procedure and that build checklists (where applicable) are completed and are visible for inspection.
  • To build and maintain Labcar systems and components.
  • Building and maintaining of test boxes
  • Manage the instrumentation on vehicles and rigs. Including configuring loggers, downloading and pre-processing data.

 About you

 Essential

  • Willing to travel in the UK and worldwide to support testing activities and customer support.
  • Several years’ experience in the Automotive or Motorsport
  • A good understanding of different testing and validation methods
  • Understanding of data loggers and data logger software.
  • The ability to work flexibly to strict deadlines

 Preferred

  • Experience of Electric Vehicles – HV charging, HV battery and HV powertrain systems
  • Knowledge of Electrical and Environmental test standards, for example LV123 & LV124.
  • Working knowledge of Vector tools including CANalyzer an CANape
  • Experience in Heavy Industry / rail / mining

About the role

As a Lead RAMS Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all RAMS activities within the project. You will ensure that the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety objectives are met, integrating all subsystems to meet system requirements. This role involves providing technical expertise, leading RAMS tasks, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

 What you will do

  • Technically lead a small group of engineers to deliver RAMS analysis activities for components & systems in accordance with customer and project targets.
  • Lead and manage RAMS tasks on projects, ensuring adherence to cost, schedule, and project milestones.
  • Work in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure that all systems are demonstrably reliable and maintainable.
  • Conduct reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety analyses using techniques such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) among others.
  • Perform maintainability analyses and other required maintainability tasks.
  • Lead the development of RAM requirements as needed for systems to ensure that all systems are capable of achieving the reliability targets and required warranty and total cost of ownership targets.
  • Preparation and presentation of reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Support technical and project reviews with the customer, representing FZero, as required.
  • Support outsourcing work packages where capacity vs capability requires to ensure delivery of projects.
  • Develop process, system and way of working within their team, or as a part of a wider working group.
  • Provide technical support to other departments and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards such as EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129.
  • Aid Business Units with business development opportunities where requested, including client meetings, feasibility work, tender and costing support.

 About you

  • An engineering qualification in a STEM subject or equivalent e.g. HND, Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree, Apprenticeship) and previous experience in Functional or System Safety.
  • Demonstrable experience in RAMS engineering in the HME, rail, aerospace, or marine sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of RAMS methodologies and standards such as EN50126/8/9 or other industry equivalents.
  • Proficiency in RAMS analysis tools and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.

About the role

Reporting to the Lead Process Engineer, assist in the management, development and effective roll-out of systems and processes to improve efficiency and quality of projects across the Engineering Department.

What you will do

  • Support the Engineering Process Group in delivery of system and process projects across a broad internal customer base.
  •  Management of the requirements management system, including updates and maintenance.
  • Administration and development of PLM systems (including Engineering approval) for the business.
  • Lead the requirements capture and drafting of new standards, procedures and guidelines in support of the Mechanical Systems group.
  • Administration of BoM Database and Project BoMs.
  • Development and reporting of key metrics and project data for Engineering projects.
  • Generate and present project material for key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support Engineering Release Meetings between project stakeholders where required.
  • Coordinating import and export of CAD data in support of projects.

About you

  •  A Degree or background in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, Motorsport or Aerospace engineering
  • Experience of mechanical design, manufacturing or PLM systems and processes or be able to show that your experience in an advanced engineering environment is transferable.
  • Knowledge of Polarion as a requirements management toolset beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of Siemens NX, Teamcenter or PowerBI would be an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of Teams / SharePoint based software would be beneficial.
  •  Working knowledge of SQL, Python or NXOpen coding would be beneficial.
  • Good working knowledge of proprietary PC software e.g. MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  •  Excellent customer facing presentation skills.
  • Ability to use your initiative and respond quickly to problems.
  • Ability to manage your own workload and projects.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of staff and department presentation, as appropriate for a facility visited by potential customers and other VIP’s.
