An opportunity has arisen in our Oxford based Research & Development team for an NGS Scientist. Reporting to the Head of Development, you will play an integral role in all aspects of new product development including laboratory preparation, sequencing, bioinformatics, and data interpretation. You will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of our NGS capabilities and portfolio.

This role is suited to someone who wants to perform lab-based research and innovative development work whilst working in a commercial environment.

What you’ll be doing for us:

  • Assisting with the introduction of new products, technologies and methodologies which either increase existing efficiencies or expand the product portfolio
  • Finding solutions for and implementing methods to resolve Company scientific/technical issues
  • Planning and conducting experiments and analysing results
  • Maintaining integrity of sequencing data, including troubleshooting, problem identification, resolution, and communication
  • Writing experimental methods and results using quality guidelines in a logical and concise manner
  • Attending R&D meetings, reporting on work progress and presenting findings
  • Ensuring a smooth flow of information between R&D and other departments
  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments to disseminate any new information which may benefit the Company
  • Producing all required documents for relevant technical transfers.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Be qualified to a minimum of BSc, up to PhD, or equivalent in Life Sciences with demonstrable experience in sequencing based molecular approaches, design and development of molecular biology assays (NGS and others)
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience of targeted NGS assay workflow execution (DNA to sequencer) and operation of different sequencing technologies
  • Be an effective communicator both in writing and verbally
  • Have effective IT skills enabling you to summarise and present complex datasets
  • Be well organised in your approach to work, with good time management
  • Be able to multitask effective and perform complex studies in parallel with minimal supervision to agreed deadlines
  • Have the tenacity and desire to understand and persevere with obtaining results
  • Be a strong team player with excellent attention to detail.

The Strategic Marketing Manager at OGT plays a pivotal role in driving commercial success and growth for our product portfolio, with a focus on Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH) solutions. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of NGS and FISH technologies, coupled with product marketing expertise, and a proven track record of serving customers across research, clinical, and pharma segments. Leading the development and execution of a robust Voice of Customer (VoC) strategy, they leverage technical expertise and market knowledge to inform product development and marketing initiatives. Spearheading global campaigns and growth strategies, they utilize their deep understanding of NGS and FISH technologies and customer workflows to drive market penetration and revenue growth. The ideal candidate possesses commercial leadership experience in the biotech or life sciences sector, alongside technical proficiency and substantial product marketing expertise. They are instrumental in shaping OGT's market strategy, enhancing customer engagement, and fostering sustainable business growth in genomic analysis.

Your duties will include:

  • Lead the implementation of a comprehensive Voice of Customer (VoC) strategy, leveraging insights obtained through our parent company, namely Sysmex, and other key partners, to drive the New Product Development (NPD) decisions that will support a strong vitality index
  • Lead initiatives to gather and analyse VoC data, utilizing insights to inform NPD decisions and drive innovation across our product portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Sales teams, fostering open communication channels to capture their valuable market insights and feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales teams to leverage their market knowledge and insights, integrating their input into the VoC strategy and ensuring alignment between customer feedback and business objectives.
  • Drive the development of global marketing campaigns and growth initiatives, utilizing VoC data and Sales insights to maximize market penetration and revenue growth.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate VoC insights into actionable strategies, ensuring alignment between customer needs and product development efforts.
  • Analyse market trends, competitive landscapes, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for product innovation and differentiation.
  • Drive the development of product positioning, messaging, and value propositions based on VoC data and market insights.
  • Develop go-to-market strategies for new product launches, incorporating VoC insights to optimize pricing, distribution, and promotional tactics.
  • Provide strategic input into product roadmap planning, prioritizing features and enhancements based on VoC findings and business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, customers, and strategic partners to leverage their insights and connections for market intelligence.
  • Monitor and analyse key performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
  • Act as a liaison with Sysmex to leverage their connections and resources for obtaining market insights and facilitating collaboration.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on NGS/FISH technologies, product marketing, and clinical applications, both internally and externally.
  • Actively participate in industry events, conferences, and forums to represent OGT and promote our product portfolio.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to develop sales enablement tools, training programs, and collateral to support product selling efforts.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment and collaboration to ensure successful execution of marketing strategies and achievement of business objectives.

What we’re looking for in you:

Essential

  • Degree level education in a molecular biology discipline
  • Previous experience in a global marketing role in Life Sciences, Genomics, or in vitro diagnostics
  • Experience of developing VoC strategies
  • Deep knowledge of NGS and/or FISH, ideally in a clinical setting
  • Comprehensive knowledge and keen interest in developing applications, new technology and uptake in clinical and diagnostic applications
  • Customer-focused
  • Strong analytical skills

Desirable

  • PhD level experience in clinical cytogenetics, molecular genetics, or cancer genetics
  • >3 years lab experience in NGS and other genomics technologies (incl. FISH, PCR, Microarray)

About the role

As a Lead RAMS Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all RAMS activities within the project. You will ensure that the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety objectives are met, integrating all subsystems to meet system requirements. This role involves providing technical expertise, leading RAMS tasks, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

 What you will do

  • Technically lead a small group of engineers to deliver RAMS analysis activities for components & systems in accordance with customer and project targets.
  • Lead and manage RAMS tasks on projects, ensuring adherence to cost, schedule, and project milestones.
  • Work in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure that all systems are demonstrably reliable and maintainable.
  • Conduct reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety analyses using techniques such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) among others.
  • Perform maintainability analyses and other required maintainability tasks.
  • Lead the development of RAM requirements as needed for systems to ensure that all systems are capable of achieving the reliability targets and required warranty and total cost of ownership targets.
  • Preparation and presentation of reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Support technical and project reviews with the customer, representing FZero, as required.
  • Support outsourcing work packages where capacity vs capability requires to ensure delivery of projects.
  • Develop process, system and way of working within their team, or as a part of a wider working group.
  • Provide technical support to other departments and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards such as EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129.

 About you

  • An engineering qualification in a STEM subject or equivalent e.g. HND, Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree, Apprenticeship) and previous experience in Functional or System Safety.
  • Demonstrable experience in RAMS engineering in the HME, rail, aerospace, or marine sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of RAMS methodologies and standards such as EN50126/8/9 or other industry equivalents.
  • Proficiency in RAMS analysis tools and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • A proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude, willing to support and collaborate with other team members and engineering functions.
  • A passion for improving sustainability through the development of cutting-edge technical solutions.
  • An understanding of energy storage systems, power conversion products, and/or electronic control units is desirable.
